Foundation Drives

Groove your basic straight and cross-court drives from a steady coach feed. Aim deep — every ball should die in a back corner. The foundation of every rally.

Drills
6 Drills · 64 Shots
Straight Drive Rail (R)
Feed Shots 10 Public

Coach feeds to mid-court right; drive each ball straight down the wall to a deep back-right length. Compact swing, racket face only slightly open — tight to the side wall beats hard.

Straight Drive Rail (L)
Feed Shots 10 Public

Coach feeds to mid-court left; drive each ball straight down the wall to a deep back-left length. Compact swing, racket face only slightly open — tight to the side wall beats hard.

Cross-Court Drive (R→L)
Feed Shots 10 Public

Feed to mid-right; drive it cross-court into the opposite back corner. Take the ball out in front of you for width — it should hit the side wall behind the service box.

Cross-Court Drive (L→R)
Feed Shots 10 Public

Feed to mid-left; drive it cross-court into the opposite back corner. Take the ball out in front of you for width — it should hit the side wall behind the service box.

Alternating Rails (L/R)
Feed Shots 12 Public

Feeds alternate sides; drive each one straight and deep, recovering through the T between shots. Same compact swing on both wings — don't let the backhand get long.

Straight & Cross Mix
Feed Shots 12 Public

Same feed, different answer — drive the first ball straight, hit the next one cross-court. Decide before the bounce; the contact point, beside you or out in front, is what changes the shot.
